Percussion: Week of January 20 - 26

Great job at the MLK Parade! Our superintendent, Dr. Lopez, was very complimentary as he walked the entirety of the parade behind our band.

I hope you all enjoy the day off on Monday, and keep your eyes peeled for possible weather Monday evening into Tuesday morning.

We have Pass Off 2 due this week and two rehearsals for NFPE. Next week, we join the full band schedule and begin the first of three Tuesday Pep Band Performances.

Supplies

Please make sure you bring concert snare sticks and a practice pad to band class every day.

1 box of tissues per student is requested. No one has observed this request.

Drumline Jersey Order - Payments are past due

Please make payments for jerseys this week.

Please make payments for jersey’s through the following process:

1) Each jersey is $55.

2) Provide payments to the band boosters. Click HERE for instructions and different payment options.

3) If paying digitally, include a note that the payment is for jerseys and the student’s name. Send a screenshot with the payment confirmation to ncollins@garlandisd.net

4) Please pay for what you can as soon as you can. All jerseys should have been paid in full by Friday, November 22. Thank you to those who have met this deadline!

Concert Band Rehearsals Begin January 27

Beginning next week (January 27), all percussionists will be expected at after school concert band rehearsals. Wind Ensemble Rehearsals are generally on Mondays and Thursdays from 3:30-5:30. Symphonic Band generally meets on Tuesdays from 3:30-5:30. It is important to review the full band communications from Mr. Falls and Mr. Choi for specific adjustments to the full band schedule that may occur due to other events held during the week.

Pep Band Performances

We are currently planning to participate at 3 basketball games this year in a “Pep Band” format. We are planning to participate on Tuesday, Jan. 28, Feb. 4 and Feb. 11. Games will start around 6pm and students will not be required to attend all games.

We will need roughly 3 students to perform each game and signups will be this week. We will need someone to play drum set for all tunes and there are opportunities to add other accessories as well.

The 2025 Pep Band musical selections are as follows:

• Cheer Riffs (Bad Romance, Let’s Go Band, Land of 1000, Iron Man)

• Hip Hop Stadium Blasters (Powerline, Face The Bass)

• 7 Nation Army

• Treasure

• Fight Song

We will begin working on these in class. Students should have their flip folder for class. It is encouraged that students listen to these songs so you have an idea of what common drum set parts are that could be used.

Upcoming Assignments and Grades

• Monday Pass Off 2 due Friday January 24 - minor grade

• Upcoming MAJOR GRADE - Supply Check on Tuesday, January 21, students will need a practice pad, binder, and pair of personal sticks.
