Percussion: Week of January 13 - 19

I hope all are well and were able to stay safe and warm with last week ending in a couple of snow days.

Thank you for your efforts to jump into our routine (classes and rehearsals) despite natural challenges coming from the surrounding days off from school.

We have Pass Off 1 due this week, two rehearsals for NFPE, and the MLK Parade this week. Check below for all the details.

Cycle 3, Week 2 (B Week) Jan. 13-19

• Monday

  • Pass Off 1 Due in class

  • Area Auditions (Rescheduled, does not involve any percussionists)

• Tuesday

  • NFPE Rehearsal from 3:30-5:30

    • Sacrificial Rite from 3:30-4:30, Watercolor Sun from 4:30-5:30

  • No Percussion is required for after school Symphonic and Wind Ensemble Rehearsals

• Wednesday

  • NFPE Rehearsal from 3:30-5:30

    • Watercolor Sun from 3:30-4:30, Sacrificial Rite from 4:30-5:30

  • Jazz Ensemble Rehearsal from 3:15-4:45

• Thursday

  • Wind Ensemble Rehearsal (Winds only)

• Friday (B Day)

  • Free after school

• Saturday

  • MLK Parade

    • 7:30am call time at NFHS, will be done by noon.

    • Students are expected to wear green ranger band shirt, additional attire dependent on weather

Supplies

Please make sure you bring concert snare sticks and a practice pad to band class every day.

1 box of tissues per student is requested. No one has observed this request.

Drumline Jersey Order - Payments are past due

Please make payments for jerseys this week.

Please make payments for jersey’s through the following process:

1) Each jersey is $55.

2) Provide payments to the band boosters. Click HERE for instructions and different payment options.

3) If paying digitally, include a note that the payment is for jerseys and the student’s name. Send a screenshot with the payment confirmation to ncollins@garlandisd.net

4) Please pay for what you can as soon as you can. All jerseys should have been paid in full by Friday, November 22. Thank you to those who have met this deadline!

Percussion Ensemble Rehearsal Details

Percussion Ensemble selections will be passed out this week during class. “Mixtape” Selections will gradually be passed out as we spend class time on our primary ensemble selections, solos and concert band music.

We will have 2 rehearsals per week in January, 1 time each week in February (Wednesdays) and will pivot to concert band rehearsals our performances at the end of February.

3 of 5 students in Sacrificial Rite were absent from rehearsal last Wednesday. While certain understandable circumstances were present, this cannot be a trend that continues moving forward. As a reminder, students need to find solutions to transportation concerns (help can be provided if needed), and students need to be present on campus with enough time to be ready to begin a rehearsal when it is scheduled to begin. Lastly, continue to take care of yourself with healthy sleep and diet routines.

Pep Band Performances

We are currently planning to participate at 3 basketball games this year in a “Pep Band” format. We are planning to participate on Tuesday, Jan. 28, Feb. 4 and Feb. 11. Games will start around 6pm and students will not be required to attend all games. More details will be provided this week.

Upcoming Assignments and Grades

• Monday Pass Off 1 due Monday, January 13 - minor grade

• Upcoming MAJOR GRADE - Supply Check on Tuesday, January 21, students will need a practice pad, binder, and pair of personal sticks.
