Percussion: Week of Oct. 7 - 13

What a great week we just had! Thank you all for your hard work and contributions. You represented yourselves well throughout homecoming week.

We are wrapping up the 1st grading period this week. Make sure you a ending the 9 weeks strong ahead of Fall Break.

Below is the weekly overview for the upcoming week and Fall Break.

Cycle 1, Week 9 (B Week): October 7-13

  • Football game - Away at Lakeview Centennial from 3:30-10:30 at HBJ Stadium

• Saturday

  • Sunnyvale Marching Contest

    • Call Time: 10:00am, Rehearsal from 10:30-11:30,

    • Prelims Performance at 4:45pm

    • Estimted Return to NFHS is 9:45pm

• Sunday

  • Free

Fall Break: October 13-20

• Sunday, October 13 - Wednesday, October 16

  • Free! Rest, Recover, and Enjoy Fall Break

• Thursday, October 17

  • Rehearsal Day from 8am-12pm at NFHS

• Friday, October 18

  • Rehearsal from 9:30am-12pm at Williams Stadium

    • Students may return to NFHS between rehearsal and game call time, bus transportation available.

      • The band hall will be open for practice, socializing, and a movie will be played

    • Students may be picked up by parents and return to NFHS at 3 for the game call time

  • Football Game - Home v Wylie East from 3pm-9:00 at Williams Stadium

    • Call time for the game is 3:00pm, a meal will be provided

    • Game time is at 5:30

• Saturday, October 19

  • Winnsboro “Battle For the Spear” contest

    • Call Time at 7:45am, Rehearsal from 8:00-8:45, Leave for Winnsboro at 9:45

    • Prelims Performance at 2:15

    • Dinner Break at 5:30

    • Return to NFHS will be around 6:45 if we do not make finals, 12am if we make finals

Sunnyvale Marching Invitational on Saturday, October 12

We have one full band contests this Saturday. The Sunnyvale Marching Invitational is on Saturday, October 5.

Drumline Jersey Order

Please make your first payment for jerseys this week. Pay for as much as you can when you can, at least one payment each month.

Please make payments for jersey’s through the following process:

1) Each jersey is $55. You can provide payment in 1 payment of the full amount owed, 2 payments ($30 and $25 for one jersey), or 3 equal payments over three months.

2) Provide payments to the band boosters. Click HERE for instructions and different payment options.

3) If paying digitally, include a note that the payment is for jerseys and the student’s name. Send a screenshot with the payment confirmation to ncollins@garlandisd.net

4) Please pay for what you can as soon as you can. All jerseys should be paid in full before Friday, November 22.

According to my records, only one student has provided payment for their jersey. Please make a payment this week.

Upcoming Assignments and Grades

• Students should submit Timpani Pass-off 1 and/or Mallet Pass-off 1 this week.

Solo and All-Region Pass Offs

At this point, students should have submitted a video recording of a portion of the semester snare solo and a portion of the 4-mallet solo. As our marching music gains greater confidence, we will be spending more time on this music in class. Until then, students should make this a priority in their individual pratice to make the semester solo process more manageable. Some details below:

• The Snare Solo pass off 1 was due August 31. The assignment was 1 page of the All-Region solo or the Bronze Level of the alternate solo. 8 Students have not submitted this video.

• The 4 Mallet Solo Pass off 1 was due September 7. The assignment was 1 page of the All-Region solo or 2 lines of the alternate solo. Thank you Rolando for being the only student to submit this pass off before the due date.

• Timpani Pass off 1 is being pushed to the week of September 30 Students will need to submit 1/3 of their timpani solo.

• Video submissions need to include video AND audio.
